The big eye trend for autumn/winter is bohemian inspired. Peacock feather-like, metallic shades of deep purple, rich bronze, midnight blue and emerald green are moving away from the pop brights of the summer.
Marc Jacobs showcased make-up supremo Francois Nars' work, his first on the catwalk for 10 years - a punky, electric look nostalgically inspired by Marc's earlier clubbing years (Nars available at www.cultbeauty.com). Nars did an individual smoky eye variation on each model, making up each girl as a colourful clubland character in her own right; try Dior Nightbutterfly Palette (www.dior.com) or Chanel Murano quartet, £34.50 (www.boots.com) which is a more colourful alternative to the usual black-eyed look.
At Versace, big haired sex vixens smouldered down the catwalk with midnight blue feline eyes created by Pat McGrath - Donatella's aesthetic demands that every show has a variation on the smoky look. We like Mac Pigment in Naval Blue, £15.
Actress Eva Green's make-up is spot on to evoke the femme fatale vibe that is perfect for winter although she is one of the few, due to her porcelain skin and dark hair, that can get away with matching crimson lips. For the rest of us, I would suggest keeping lips nude or natural with a slick of lip balm. We adore Mac Hue, and Sisley Lip Balm.
To prepare your smoky eye, use a soft highlighting cream on the eyelid - Becca Eye Highlighter in Quartz, is perfect (www.cultbeauty.com). Then using your main eye colour with a precise brush, draw your shape around the eye socket in a block shape, bringing it underneath the bottom lash-line. Once you have perfected the shape on both eyes, blend both colours in the socket line with a blending brush to soften the look. With a soft pencil such as Elizabeth Arden Soft Black Kohl, £13, seal in the colour above and below the lashline by gently smudging with a brush or cotton bud.
For a final touch, smudge a flash of silver into the corner of the eye; try Dior Silver Eyeliner (www.dior.com) or add lustrous sparkle with Mac Reflect Pearl Glitter, £13.50, which gives a deliciously soft focus effect. For those who want defined eyes but don't want to go down the smoky route, stick to a dark bronze colour palette such as Guerlain Brun Modore Eye Compact, £34.50, which will add depth and drama to the eye without overpowering - Diane Kruger looks fantastic in these colours.
Add individual eyelashes - Eyelure lashes are great - with tweezers which look far more natural than eyelash strips, as well as being far easier to apply. Finish with lashings of black mascara; we are loving Lancome Hypnose Drama, and you are ready for nightfall...
